In Memory of Brother Paul Wu

I experienced our dear brother Wu as one who was unwaveringly dedicated to always outpouring himself for the nurturing and care of those who were burdened, or given, to serving the Lord.

I am one of those who greatly benefited from his faithful rendering of help, encouragement, guidance and, undoubtedly, much prayer in our being prepared as stewards in the household of God.

After my family and I migrated to South Africa, Brother Wu and brother Lin Horng were the first co-workers who came to visit us from Taiwan. These dear brothers left the convenience, comfort and security of Asia and boldly travelled to the unknown and, to them, uncharted so-called “dark continent of Africa”, to encourage and strengthen us in our service here. Their gracious visit and encouraging fellowship had a huge impact on our continued labour here and, even more significantly, was profoundly helpful in furthering the blending and living of the Body life between the South African and Taiwanese saints.

“God gave Solomon…largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore” (1 Kings 4:29)

The church life in the rest of Africa was also in the heart of brother Wu. During my serving in Africa in the last two decades, on numerous occasions I was invited by brother Wu to attend various meetings and fellowship. He often asked me to give reports from the churches in Africa to the saints attending these events, and also gave me the opportunity to engage and coordinate with the Chinese speaking saints. He cared for the integration of the Lord’s work in the broader spectrum, with a committed view to see the manifestation of the One New Man.

The measure of his gift from the ascended Christ will be a “memorial” to many children of God. The pouring out of our brother will be appraised by our master when He receives him, saying: “Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Matt 25:21)
